Malton Rifle and Pistol Club was officially formed in 1901. The club initially used an outdoor range in Brows Quarry on York Road before moving to an indoor range situated on Water Lane in 1908. The club moved a second time in 1981 to the purpose built indoor range that we use today. The picture shows members outside the Water Lane Range in the 1920's.

Now you need to get in touch. Please do not turn up at the club unannounced, you must book your first visit to the club in advance. Click the button below to see our contact details and let us know a little bit about yourself and what membership type you want to apply for. We'll get back to you as quickly as we can and arrange a date for you to visit the club.
Come to the club on the agreed date/time and we'll show you round, talk you through the equipment and shooting disciplines available and answer any questions you may have about the club.
In accordance with the Home Office guidance for shooting clubs you will not be able to shoot small-bore rifles on on your first visit unless you can prove you have full membership at another Home Office approved club. We can allow the use of air rifles under the supervision of a Full Member of the club providing the air rifle is under the UK legal power limit of 12ft/lbs.

Come back to the club with the completed application and proof of identity. We will now consider you to be a prospective member of the club which means you are able to shoot small-bore rifles under the supervision of a Full Member of the club. We'll give you instruction on safe weapons handling and give you a few tips to get you hitting the target. All you will need to pay at this point is the range fee and for any targets/ammunition used.
If you still want to join the club the management committee will process your application. As per Home Office rules this will include sending you details to the North Yorkshire Police firearms licensing team.
Now you need to bring the the appropriate membership fee along to the club and we'll make you a Probationary Member. You'll now be able to continue shooting at the club under the supervision of a Full Member of the club.
If your aim is to progress to Full Membership or Junior Membership for small-bore rifles you'll be given an attendance card to record your shooting visits to the club. Six visits are required during the three month probation period and for these visits to count you must shoot with a small-bore rifle. This visit will count as your first. There is no minimum number of visits for those wanting to progress to Airgun Membership.
You'll attend the club regularly and continue shooting under the supervision of a Full Member, receiving further training in the use of firearms and the disciplines you have chosen to shoot. If you have an attendance card you'll need to bring it along each time so you can log your visits.
On successful completion of probationary membership the management committee will, on payment of the required fee, make you a Full, Airgun or Junior Member of the club as required.
Note: If you do not successfully complete the probation period you will be invited to repeat the three months on receipt of an additional Probationary Membership Fee.
